A clean, bright carpet can make all the difference to any area in your home, but leaving stains and odors can change all that. Here’s how to keep your carpet fresh and get rid of stains before you call a carpet cleaning service in Cape Town
Allowing a dirt or dust build-up makes emergency cleaning so much more difficult, so vacuum carpets regularly to stop dust and dander from accumulating in the fibres.
Never allow a stain or spill to stand
Pounce on spills or stains immediately! Treating the area quickly doesn’t just keep up the appearance of your carpet, but it also stops bad odors from developing. With pet accidents, you may remove the appearance of the stain, but if urine is allowed to dry inside the fibers, you’ll be left with the smell.
Cleaning a stain
For spilled liquid, soak up the spill with paper towels. In the case of food or solid waste, pick it off the surface of the carpet with paper towels, but don’t rub at it, or you’ll press it into the fibers. Clean the area with water, and blot or dab gently n circular motions. Avoid scrubbing roughly as this can damage your carpet.
If water isn’t enough to remove the stain, use a diluted solution of mild cleaning agent/detergent and water. Again, dab or blot gently. If the stain is still not gone, find a carpet-stain removal product, but test it on a small area to check that it doesn’t discolour your particular type of carpet.
Once clean, blot the area dry with paper towels and allow it to dry out completely before anyone walks on it.
